Removing return springs from controller?

Just a thought - has anyone had a controller apart and would know if it is possible to remove the centering action from the control sticks?

I know it's a bit extreme but this would allow flights to be made "hands off" and could provide an alternative to Dynamic Tracking for straightforward motion.
