I noticed something odd while shooting video with an Evo II pro I bought from someone. At the far left of the frame there is band of light distortion running from top to bottom. It's mostly noticeable while shooting video. I updated the firmware, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also tried it with and without an ND filter.
I can zoom the frame a little and it goes away, but that's not exactly the fix I was looking for. See photo.

That is odd and you actually have the problem on both sides of the frame, but it is more distinctive on the left side. You mentioned ND filter, has the factory UV filter been removed or replaced? I see problems like these when aftermarket filters are used.

Also, does it do this even when the image is properly exposed? The reference image is pretty badly overexposed.

I've used ND filters on my other Evo II pro and never had a problem with it. Haven't done any test shots with different exposure.

I would test bringing the exposure down, trying a different profile (LOG is the only profile that I use) and also maybe trying a different video editor, possibly there's a preset or something in the video editor that is causing it.

Also, do you see the same thing in photos? I would try taking a JPG photo so that all processing is done in camera and comparing that to the video output.

I'm seeing the light distortion even on the screen of my camera and controller, which leads me to think it might be an issue with the camera itself.

I get these distorted or warped photos from the Evo 2 Pro V 3.
It shows at the top and bottom of the frame. Any ideas?

Barrel distortion, it is present in all wide-angle lenses. To fix it you will just need the proper lens profile in your post processing editor. You can reduce it by trying to keep the camera as level as possible, but obviously with drones that is not always feasible.

I typically use my Evo 2 Pro V 3 as a backup to my Mavic 3 Pro.
I do not have the barrel distortion on the Mavic 3 Pro. Thanks for your reply.

All wide-angle lenses have it, the Mavic 3 Pro may fix it in camera especially if you shoot JPG, but it is still there the instant the image is captured; it's just a limitation of wide-angle lenses. Also, if you are shooting RAW and post processing in LR, LR has a lens profile for the Mavic Pro 3 but it does not have one for the EVO 2, so it could also be your post processing software automatically fixing it.

I made my own lens profile in LR for the EVO 2, it takes just a few seconds.

I have not tried LR yet. How do you make the lens profile? Thanks

Hello,
How are you? I have never used LR before, but I might get it if I could figure out how to fix EVO 2 Pro lens distortion. Would you be willing to share that information? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

If you have never used LR before then if I were you, I would not start now unless you are going to be filming for commercial work. It comes with an endless subscription fee that is not worth it unless you can pass the cost off to your clients. If you do get LR, you just go to the Lens Correction menu and pick one of the automatic profiles or create a manual profile. When I used the EVO, I picked the DJI Mavic profile then customized it fix the remaining distortion.

A big step to minimizing distortion is to keep the camera as level as possible and keep your peak subject as close to the middle of the lens as possible.....this is true of all wide-angle lenses.
