X Star Batteries

Ok, so I bought one of this guys batteries, working apparently his description said, battery arrived today dead as a doornail, and will not charge. I'm starting to wonder if this guy just went out and bought up a bunch of dead batteries and is trying to unload them asap before anyone gets wise to it. Unless anyone thinks a "working" battery can completely crap out within 4 days?
Ebay does have a good guarantee if not as described.

Yeah, I'm just trying to give the seller a chance before leaving a bad review, but torn that if he's doing what I think, I don't want anyone else to get taken for a ride either. As soon as his last one sold today, he's already got 2 more up for sale, didn't even bother to change the picture either.

I'm afraid there are a lot of bad batteries out there and I wouldn't risk them unless I knew they were almost new. I've been testing some of my old batteries and once they hit about 60 percent they drop to zero almost immediately. I'm just staying over head and they are landing within just a minute or two. I don't think I would even use one that doesn't have at least 90% capacity when fully charged.

Well, I finally received a reply back from Autel support, and as I'm sure most will not be surprised, they pretty much just said, oh well too bad so sad.

Thank you for contacting Autel Robotics Support. I want to apologize for the inconvenience with the purchasing of the X-Star batteries. The last X-Star drone was produced in early 2018. With all X-Star drones holding a 1 Year warranty almost all drones had their warranty expire in 2019 and many before. As the year progressed we continued to support the platform with repairs and the continued sales of accessories like batteries. As we entered into 2020 we began to see items like the batteries become less and less available as people started to move into new drones. Towards the a few months into the release of the EVO II we learned that the X-Star batteries were no longer to be produced. We received a few more shipments and did our best to provide service in anyway that we could. And we have reached a point now where those batteries are no longer available. Again I truly apologize for the inconvenience but at this point we have not heard of any other information beside the confirmation of production ending for the batteries. I completely understand your frustrations. If there is anything else that we can assist with please let me know and I would be happy to help. Have a great rest of your day.

Best,

Well no surprise as you said. The one thing that does surprise me is they will not unlock the battery firmware so 3rd party companies (China) can make after market batteries.
With this Covid 19 stuff going on they are short on staff in the office and stockroom. I know this for a fact that when they have a supply of batteries they have to rotate them, charge and discharge them to keep them fresh. They need tender loving care just like you :) so with the pandemic they probably said we need to drop some of our work load and the x-star batteries got dumped. Just a guess

No clue, but a very good guess. The only thing I can suggest at this point is a mass campaign for everyone to write in making a request for the 3rd party vendors, or new batteries, I can't hurt, but just my 2 cents. I think is a huge waste to see so many good drones gathering dust.

I've bought a couple complete drones lately for less than 300 with two or three dead batteries and have managed to get the batteries to work like new. I'm sure there must be thousands of these drones out there and people will be anxious to get rid of them when the batteries are dead.
How do you get them back? I basically inherited a practically new x-star. it would surprise me if it's got more than 4 or 5 flights on it. The batteries will only light up to the power button then stop and then only the button circle lights.

I've seen several detailed instructins with pics on here but basically you just have to break the batteries apart and apply 12 volts directly to the battery but also search this forum for the better instructions.
