Landing Accuracy Issues with New Firmware version: 1.3.3.25

Updating has always been a matter of choice. Most say if its not broke don't fix it. I have never seen any of the 4 UAV's I fly allow you to downgrade the firmware. If firmware is a total disaster they will issue a updated one but never go back to a older one.

I noticed the initial post said he normally has 14-15 satellites. How are you able to tell how many satellites you are connected to? Is that on the app?

IIRC, you can see the number of GPS satellites if you swipe down or tap the top status bar on the Autel Explorer app.

Just flew yesterday after a period of not flying and I see the same behavior in terms of landing problems and accuracy on RTH. I've calibrated the compass, and gimbal and have plenty of GPS signal. Accuracy before this firmware upgrade was within inches of the landing pad every single time. Now it's off by 5 or 10 feet AND I always get the warning about "Landing Area Unsafe" too.
Not too happy - I hope they fix these problems in the next release which is in beta now.

My first day of flying BETA yesterday (took off and landed 8 times with 2 batteries) -- Everything was trivial at best. Never seen those landing warnings before. And after looking over my flight logs - my compass can't seem to make it's mind up -- normal or abnormal.... lol Keeps telling me normal in the APP. It did land a few times and note it was "accurate landing" -- but it failed miserably most -- tried to crash the first landing and I kept having to give it altitude until the "Landing Area Unsafe" warning finally decided to kick in... lol

Did the Beta Firmware fix landing issue ?
Its a long shot but the compass calibration for most new systems seem over simpified.. Its good to recalibrate for each location you fly because of anything underground or if the aircraft was transported to close to speakers in the car or even placed on the cars roof which may have a sunroof motor in it. Take the old 3DR Robotics Iris plus for example using PIXHAWK controller with mission planner for PC (not the android version) to see compass calibration live. It shows a wire globe and dots begin to appear all over it. You can rotate the aircraft and fill in gaps to cover all sides. The more dots on the globe the more accurate or more reference the compass has. The 3DR instructions say to rock forward and back while turning on each axis. It takes time and you have that dang usb cable connection to the PC. Most manufacturers now just say rotate on each side and your done but maybe moving the aircraft slower while rotating will allow a better calibration. This could be a side affect of trying to make the drone more beginner friendly with minimal calibration. Just a guess, I land the Evo in my hand most of the time to keep the tiny camera lenses on its belly clean which do aid in accurate landing. Landing the Evo in the hand works better than Mavic pro or Spark. They always try to escape my grip till props finally stop. Evo just cuts power quickly.
An elevated launch sight is good to get away from the ground but landing on it... well, good luck !

I do not doubt the fragility of this compass -- which is what it seems -- as in defective on my unit.

Per Autel you are only to re-calibrate when warned. I was warned between my 2nd and 3rd flight -- it always shows normal in the APP ever since. I just noticed all of it's warnings when reviewing the flight logs.

If the Evo is going to need to be reset for every trip or every location ( in my limited experience -- it has been in a 30 mile radius from home) -- then it is not functioning right. It would not even be feasible to calibrate it at all the locations you go -- as some are going to be better than others for a proper calibration.

Thats true some places may not be the best location to recalibrate. Im hoping the new tech has better compass systems. My old Phantom 2 needed it when visiting new places per that error code light blinking at startup and the Iris plus got me thinking if all drones should be calibrated more carefully. Iv been lucky with the Evo. The DJI rigs have a fit at times just sitting on concrete !
Hope your fixed soon. That kind of problem can keep me up late trying to search solutions or making adjustments. Especially if it's new.

Thanks!

And tell me about it!!! -- in this case -- I have taken a 24 hour crash course in multi-track video editing - or storyboard editing or whatever they call it. LOL My brain is fried -- my Lenovo desktop wants MORE RAM! lol I wanted to learn all of this, but not having to do so while dealing with a possessed Evo ... lol

I have never done video editing on a phone before either - had to learn that too -- DU recorder is the bomb!

I will have a feed from the EVO, my phone and I used DU recorder again to capture my flight logs which was showing all the compass errors. My phone seems to be just as zippy at churning out decent frame rates as a PC.

Tuesday's flight is almost out of the oven (AMD Ryzen 5 rig I was not planning on for video editing... lol) -- Then it will be ready for upload to YouTube for Autel to have a look & see.

I'm surprised mine hasn't just flown away or flown back to Autel... lol
