Hi all!

I just recently purchased an EVO II V3 RTK and I’m having trouble connecting to a server. Can someone guide me as to free access points or reliable paid ones that I can put the info in and use the RTK? I didn’t realize it was so in depth and we do not have any other equipment besides the drone.

Thanks!

I use the RTK on nearly every flight. You haven’t given us enough information, though. What state are you in? Don’t pay for CORS corrections if you don’t need to. It just depends on whether or not your state offers a free CORS/NTRIP service. Indiana (where I am), Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, and Missouri are all free as are many other states. Illinois charges. A lot. Your state will give you connection instructions (IP address, mounting point, etc). You might need to try more than one MP, but once you have one that works, you’re up and running.

HI,

I have a couple of EVO II RTK Ver 3 and use the RTK all the time. As Mentioned, I predominantly use Point One, as I am in Virginia that does not offer a No Cost or Any service anymore through their DOT like many states do. The down side of my Pont One connection is 32.44 km from my home location. I also have tried with some success rtk2go.com which is free service. My closest rtk2go connect point from over 80km away, not good for accurate corrections. I now have one which is 5102 meters from my home location and my FIX connection is great. Plus it is free,
Point One after the Free trial is $50 a month.

Check out your local DOT to see if they offer you access, if not check out rtk2go.com website, they have a map which shows you base locations you can connect to.

Hope that helps. Good Luck.

Hi all,

Thank you for the info! I have been able to successfully connect to a few RTK servers (I am in NJ). I tried connecting to the available ones in NY from the DOT there and have "logged in successfully" as well as rtk2go.com and a free trial from Point One. The issue I am having is that it stays on FLOAT and keeps saying "RTK is not ready" and I cannot takeoff. Is there something I need to do in order to make it change from FLOAT to FIXED or is there a different solution? I am not sure why I cannot get it to go through properly when it says login is successful.

THANK YOU!

From Float to Fix is something that you have no control over. You just have to wait for your service to achieve FIX not Float for RTK Corrections. Sometimes it takes longer than others, depends upon where you are, how far you are from the Base offering those corrections, the weather, the number of satellites, the surrounding buildings etc. There are a lot of factors unfortunately that you don't control.

Now for what you do control, Autel does not tell you in the manual but the Drone will not take off if it is in Float mode, it will stay there all day.
A lot of times I have found that it does not connect well with the networks on the ground. The best way when you don't have a fix on take off is to shut RTK off.
Take off, then turn the RTK on, I normally turn it back on about 100' or so. You will find that once you are up in the air, your connection will switch to FIX. Just make sure that it reads FIX on your controller if you are collecting data that requires those RTK Corrections. It will still fly with Float but you will no have the benefit of the RTK corrections on your Images.

Where in New Jersey, Born in Somerville, Grew up in Wayne, lived in Livingston before moving to Virginia.

If I can help in any way, please let me know, I would be happy to.

Awesome, thank you! I tried that earlier today and still didn’t connect, but will give it more time later on. Thank you! We’re in south jersey now, just outside Philly. We were living in Fairfax just before here and miss it everyday

OP, is the drone out in the open? FLOAT is showing you are connected and receiving corrections. Do you know how far away your mount point is? If you chose one that is far away this could account for the FLOAT status.
OP also look into Alpha RTK for a paid service. They are out of NJ and have the state fully covered. They are $1500 for 2 years. They send corrections in NAD 83 (2011).

I think Point One just raised their prices to $150 if I am not mistaken. Point One is nationwide and gives corrections in WGS84 or NAD83 (2011).

Another consideration is Rock RTK. You can subscribe for around $50 a month or you buy their Base station which you host by installing it on your property, giving it power and internet. You then earn free access to their whole network.
Rock RTK is expanding, each time I check they have more base stations nationwide. They send corrections in NAD83 (2011).

I’m not sure how far away, especially since I have tried a bunch of the different available ones, like Point One. Is there a distance that is too far? I’m not sure where the closest one for PointOne is, for example. Or how long should I wait with it in the air before giving up? I’ll definitely checkout Alpha RTK, thank you!!

A Really neat tool which I use regularly was suggested to me by an Engineer at Point One. It is an app that they use.
It is called Ntrip Checker and is available on Google Play. It is free.
It does what it says, checks your Ntrip Connection. You load you Provider and it give you, STATUS, Data Received, Protocol, Messages, Satellites and Base Station Info.
The Base Station Info, gives you the Lat and Long of the base station and your Rover. The Bearing and the distance to the Base Station.
Enjoy!

So I had a bit of mixed results. Once in the air, I was able to get a FIX connection with AlphaRTK but lost it midflight. The others were doing the same thing in and out so I am not sure how reliable it will be and/or how area dependent it is.

Are you running the tests in the same area? Does the area have items that could generate interference?

Try moving to a totally new area. You should easily be able to obtain FIX in an open area within under a minute on the ground.
Make sure you are using the PHILLY point or DYNAMIC (Chooses the closest mount point).

What are you using for your internet connection? Maybe you hotspot is the problem.

If you got the FIX in the air, I would look at your Internet connection and Hotspot and Mount point.

I was near my house and I used a hotspot and also tried with my home internet (full strength WiFi connection where I was standing). I will give a new spot a try tomorrow, thank you!!
