Just got an EVO 2 Pro V.2 direct from Autel. Flying back against a 20mph wind, something my DJI Air and Mini 4 Pro could easily handle. But no, my Autel CRAWLED back at 4mph and she never made it home. Lost the drone. Seems like all the Autel models struggle against any wind whatsoever. Why is this? Should we expect performance that's not even half as good as DJI models?

Sorry for your loss. What mode did you have it in? Standard (34mph) or Ludicrous (45mph) should have been no problem in that wind. Also, note for future endeavors, wind speed usually increases with altitude. 20mph at the ground could have been 30+ up higher.

I agree with you. If the surface winds are 20mph they’re usually noticeably faster higher up. In such conditions I wouldn’t go out and fly an expensive drone in the first place as a lot of flight time is wasted fighting the winds.
Autel drones are just as good as DJI’s in my experience.

The E2P is my first choice to get stable video in high winds, It's extremely capable in winds.
If you get slow speeds, The drone likely is in ''novice mode'' or one of the other speed restrictions were active. The flightlogs may expose the root cause of failure.

I fly Autel Evo Lite Plus and I have videos on my page Quis85 on YouTube flying in 40mph gust. I think your issue may be pilot era! Or you just got a bad drone. But check your flight log and it will tell you what mode you were in! Sounds like you were in regular mode aka slow mode or cinematic mode. What i usually do is check my b4ufly app. To see which direction the wind going and how high I will be flying what's the winds at that height. I try if possible to fly against the wind going so I can have the wind with me coming back. Even if I can't do that. I use ludicrous mode and 9/10 no issues. Once I had a issue and the drone decided to lower altitude. I was able to gain control. It did notice really strong winds. I got caught in a cold front trying to get footage before the rain lol. The rain caught up to me so fast. It was sunny where I was. The storm was miles behind me. Its all on video on my page 😆. Nevertheless Evo Lite plus came back without issue. Your drone in the professional version of my Evo Lite Plus. Ludicrous mode yours go 5mph faster at 45. Is also rated higher when it comes to winds. So yeah it might have been pilot era. Not drone era.
