My flying skills have slowly improved since getting my Evo late last year. Since I was visiting LV in late Feb. , I got bold and requested/received FAA authorization to fly in some controlled airspace over Las Vegas Strip in the early morning. Some of the Casino Security Guards that I spoke to were actually pretty helpful in helping me find safe takeoff/landing spots. The 3 short flights went smoothly as I did not try anything other than basic rotating and flying in straight lines. I thought i would share some edited footage. Cheers. :

Wow, it must have been VERY early to get away with that...Well done, but be careful, lots of security these days in Vegas...

Funny thing about LA, you might have permission from one casinos security guards but that does not cover your bases. Following a few cases where the pilot captured a building with their trade mark on it and they got sued from the owner. Seems you have to ask even the homeless in veges before posting the pictures and or video. Since the FAA gave permission it was classified as a Part 107 flight and not hobby so it was commercial and subject to more then just permission to fly.

That's NV not LA ;) (says the guy that screwed up the super bowl thread (me) lol) but I'm thinking places like that would all react the same.

You’re exactly right. It doesn’t matter where you are in the USA — it’s true in the EU too, Canada (?). You made me stop and think about all the legal BS briefings I used to get working full-time. It’s easy to shoot/video stuff without getting permission, I’ve done it. You simply can’t use it in any way, or show it anywhere, w/o legal jeopardy. I think it’s OK in Russia....;)

fyi: In case there is any confusion, the flights I did along the strip in LV were 100% authorized, legal and lawful per FAA laws/rules, State of Nevada law and City of Las Vegas ordinances. I did NOT have permission to launch or land from any private Casino properties, but their security guards (2 out of three guys I spoke to actually owned drones themselves) were very helpful in steering me to the best launch spots in the public right-of-way. I launched and landed legally from public property did not fly over moving cars nor people, etc. . I am a relative beginner to drones but I am actually an elected government official in my town and as such I am pretty sensitive to the need to adhere to laws/rules, etc. Also, I have already done some small commercial jobs: My advice to (Americans) drone pilots is this: 1- If you have even a small chance of doing any commercial work (even just via monetized social media like youtube) get your part 107 certification and seriously study the FAA laws and fly strictly legally, "by the book". 2- Get yourself a nice vest like this. People will not only leave you alone, they will help you get up in the air and assist you. 3-Buy flight insurance (just in case) it is cheap.

I seriously hear more horror stories from these forums then the streets. So many people scared of their own drone's shadow.... Good job! Kudos.

Wow, very cool. Probably a pain getting the FAA waivers to fly there. Most of the footage is of MGM properties, looks like they should be using your footage in their ads. Nice work!
