Obstacle Avoidance

mad to be told and sold misleading information!! No 8 k camera. No Live Deck which I bought and waited for an update only to be told it won't be compatible and i sent it back in December and still waiting for a refund!!!
Ye, I guess we all suckers.

Is the following a true advertisement:

"The EVO Max series can support obstacle avoidance at night, because the EVO Max series drones are the only commercial drones that combine traditional binocular vision systems with millimeter-wave radar technology, three-way obstacle avoidance sensors, EVO MAX The series of drones can perceive objects as small as 0.5 inches, and even at night, they can achieve effective obstacle avoidance without relying on the visual system."

If you have the 24 Ghz model then it doesn't have the same level of obstacle avoidance using the millimeter wave radar as a 60 Ghz version does. You can find out which model you have by looking inside the battery compartment for a special logo. You should see either a "24 Ghz" or "60 Ghz" logo. The 60 Ghz version is the one you want because it fully uses the millimeter wave radar while the 24 Ghz only uses it for landing purposes.

Agree. ..but when I made my purchase this was not presented as an option. It was presented as the description of the product for sale. Quite misleading. Sounds like a false advertisement. I wonder if this upgrade can be made with a firmware update?

And I've tried to warn people about purchasing an Autel Alpha for the very same reason. And in the case of an Evo Max, this is not changeable via a firmware upgrade.

I learned the EVO Max base aircraft is either 24 GHz only (radar FW #6.5.5.1) or 60 GHz + 24 GHz (radar FW #6.8.11.1). It is not possible to convert a 24 GHz only to a 60 GHz because the 24 GHz only drone’s bottom circuit board is missing the 60 GHz components. Thus, the radar FW is matched to the radar components on the circuit board.

Some resellers still claim that 60 GHz radar drones cannot be shipped to or sold in the USA because of regulatory restrictions. It appears that’s their excuse to unload older 24 GHz only EVO Max base aircraft. That is a lie because the FCC approved 60 GHz radars in drones in March 2023. That ruling was published in the Federal Register in August 2023.

The best insurance to get the newer EVO Max base aircraft is to start with USA based authorized resellers, get them to confirm the 60 GHz is enabled in their EVO Max models, or buy direct from Autel Robotics in Bothell, WA.

I found that OA works pretty good but be aware it still got glitches especially the latest firmware.
Did some flying without GNSS and was pretty happy with it but.. glitches.

I crashed my drone 2 times now testing to see how good it is.
I should have taking the camera off as the first crash it messed up the gimbal but the hammer fixed it but the with latest firmware it flew into a building, got stuck in a bush/tree area and basically no control.

More testing to be performed... :(

Does anybody have an issue when GNSS suddenly goes from 36 to 0 satellites a drone switches to ATTI mode the joysticks lose control of the drone?
Sometimes an error saying "OA is not working, RTH something is not working too". It could happen during a day in a good weather.
Visual positioning is off.

I would recommend opening a support ticket with Autel and having them do some diagnostics on your drone right away before something unfortunate happens.
