Fly without camera

Is it possible or advisable to fly through X-Star without the camera and gimbal mounted? There are some times when this might be advantageous. Your thoughts ?

I have done it just because I wanted to fly ITTI mode and if I crashed I would not destroy the camera. Other then that I see no point.
