Evo II v1 &v2 - how to tell?

If they haven't made or released any V2s yet then why is the firmware available for download? I'm just saying I wouldn't believe anything Autel says anymore!
2 weeks ago when I posted that....I was told by Autel they have yet to produce V2. Now...the V2s are out...

besides the marking on the outside and on the inside (including the packaging and the rc), is there some other reliable and independent method to verify?

The Autel Explorer application now has a 5.8 MHz frequency selection.

There is also markings inside the battery compartment but there are no markings on the rc or packaging or at least not on the one that I got. I bought the rugged bundle. One must becarefull when shopping. There are some unscrupulous vendors, like Amazon, who are trying to sell off thier old stock of v1 with deceptive advertising by putting "2021 Newest Fly More Combo" in the title.

Frequency? The v1 is single band, the v2 is dual band. You can verify this in the app. Possibly the controller too?

The model numbers printed in the battery bay are different too.

I'm also guessing some firmware module versions will be different too (given that the two firmware packages are NOT) compatible, and have different firmware version numbers. But given Autel's track record of versioning, this is not a reliable check until someone can share their module versions here.

it's early in the game so this is not yet a problem but by fall/winter, this is going to be a problem. there needs to be a reliable and independent mechanism that will verify by s/n which model.

thanks everyone. the ordinary consumer is not going to know this. how are they supposed to know this; is it posted on autelrobotics.com. maybe the customer can call autel support and provide a s/n and ask?

Why? 🤷‍♂️

Are all the other methods of independent detection detailed in this thread not enough?!
sorry I meant independent as in someone other than the buyer/seller. for me it's not enough; however, for others who don't really care so much perhaps they are fine with it for now. we'll see what happens. I can envision several scenarios where it would be helpful to provide and help to stem (not eliminate) any confusion which could end up being a disaster. I like to get ahead of things and for some reason, my sense say this has the potential to go sideways and if I were autel, I would post faq page with the s/n range and applicable model number (if that's the valid case) or at least provide the ability to call it in. I understand a lookup database on the website might be bit much but it's not unheard of for manufacturers to give potential customers piece of mind that they are getting what they paid for. personally, I am comfortable when I make a purchase but I'm clearly in the minority because most people don't want to get "screwed." the idea is to bring a measure of transparency to the autel evo 2 purchase which was pretty clear before autel got involved. ;)

eventually we'll get questions like "my evo 2 looses signal as soon as I leave my backyard, I feel like I have a v1 drone (according to the complaints I read on the forums)" or "my evo 2 v2 never switches bands but..." we already know the shady characters will try to take advantage which will become even more apparent as used v1 drones start to flood the market early next year. read: nobody will list their evo 2 as v1. autel already has a s/n lookup, it wouldn't hurt to get ahead of this (just in case) and add model number to that process imho. otherwise if autel is ok with handling the discrepancies post purchase..... :)

The model number in the battery bay has changed from “MDCP” for the v1 to “MDCA” for the v2.

I still don't really follow your train of thought re someone independent being able to tell the difference though, surely they'd just ask if it has V2 stamped on the top? 😊

I just received the Rugged package. There is NOTHING on the packaging or paperwork. Only the V2 on the body. FWIW

this is what I am afraid of.

autel can help with this "problem."

^Ultimately this means there is an element of compatibility:

V1 drone = V1 sc
V2 drone = V2 sc

and

V2 drone ≠ V1 sc
V1 drone ≠ V2 sc

How do you tell if the Evo II Pro you have is a V1 or V2?
This is a copy of an email I just received from Autel. I had a similar question like yours.

Thank you for contacting Autel Robotics!

In regards to manuals for the aircraft body and remote controller, you can find some here: EVO II Downloads

With the Version 1 and Version 2 of the aircrafts, we do not currently have an update plan in place. What is important to keep in mind regarding these two versions is that the Version 2 is not an upgraded drone by any means. The only difference between the two devices is that the V1 will operate on a 2.4GHz band while the V2 operates on both 2.4 and 5.8GHz bands,
