I read some time ago that there is a system for DJI drones called AEROSCOPE. It is supposed to be able to read the radio connection between the controller and the drone and the authorities should be able to determine the flight altitude, for example. Allegedly, this system was made available to the authorities by DJI.
I had read a case in a DJI forum where a person had received a letter from an authority with a fine because he had allegedly flown higher than 120 meters with his DJI Drones.
Does anyone know the Aerospace system that is supposedly used here in Germany and is there something similar for Autel?
Thanks

Jockel

Aeroscope is only one way that authorities can monitor drones.
Aeroscope only works on DJI drones.
There are also sophisticated radio frequency detecting systems that monitor the bands that drones transmit on.

I cannot speak for Germany, but in the United States, all new mainstream drones transmit Remote ID which allows any person with a free app to monitor drones that they are nearby. I have been able to track the pilot and drone from around 1/4 mile away in best cases using a simple free app on my smart phone. Remote ID allows you to get the drone's serial number which the authorities could easily use to find the owner.

Thank you for your information. I would also be interested to know if AEROSCOPE is a nationwide system or is it only used at “hotspots” (military, airport ....)?

In Spain Aeroscope is widely used in combination with other systems by the police. They have fixed systems in the main cities (Madrid, Barcelona, etc) and portable units distributed all around the country and in some cases they are mounted in cars so they are patrolling while scanning. There are algo some units installed in importante military facilities or shipyards for example. The Aeroscope units mainly detects DJI because they "decrypt" the communication between the remote control and the drone and get all the information directly from the drone sensors (track, speed, altitude, pilot position, email of the DJI accoun, drone serial number, etc) but for other brands it works as a signal receptor. That means that will show the direction from which is receiving the signal of a drone that is flying but not all the exact data like in the case of a DJI.

Using a DJI drone if you are worried about regulation is a big issue, since the manufacturer provides the tool to detect you. Using other brands gives you more freedom and the main enemy you will have are the people that are watching you fly, because even if you are flying legally, they will come to you asking what are you doing, if you have license, telling you that you can't fly there or calling the police.

So considering that the regulation is a non-sense in so many ways, my own rule is "fly without disturbing no one and nothing" and that's it. And always away from people if possible. And of course never flying near airports, military facilities or places where there is an obviuos risk or danger.
