Incident - Discussed with FAA

They never did say whatever happened to that guy.
Thanks for posting that. I have seen it before, but enlightening for those that haven’t. That is one phone call I don’t want to get. What price did this guy have to pay? I don’t know, however I bet he is still feeling it?.

Yeah, around here (rural area) we get a lot of Helo's below 500 feet. Most of the time IMO they do not need to be that low. This is one reason in favor of the new rule proposal for remote ID. On the other hand have you tried the app "Flight Radar 24" ? I've been using this for a while and seems to be pretty accurate. The delay - depending on cell service, seems to be about 5-8 seconds. I myself would prefer that the LAANC app and and app like I just described be instituted for all pilots rather than requiring Remote ID.

The rules are pretty dum in my opinion. The rule states that no aircraft can fly under 500-feet. But after you weigh in all the exceptions, they are basically allowed to fly anywhere they want and at any altitude. It's a rule that's not a rule, so why did they bother to type it.
It is called "scud running." Anything below 500 feet is at pilots discretion.
