EVO II joystick inputs change during flight

Anyone having any issues during flight with the joystick changing input directions after taking off (push right joystick but actually go backward)? I use Mode 2 and verify it before every flight but randomly during flight (even after calibrating joysticks) pushing right joystick to the right to go right, the drone will go backwards instead. I can stop and make another input or two and it will start working correctly again. Last week during forward flight about 1500ft away I was heading away from me and looked at the screen and noticed it was going backward while trying to fly forward. I stopped, made another input with the controls and everything worked fine again with no more issues. I know this is confusing, sorry!

I'm an inspector so I'm around trees a lot when looking at roofs and I don't want to risk hitting any small limbs the avoidance system isn't seeing. I've made sure the stick is screwed in all the way and always calibrate the controller now before taking off (I always do a compass cal and gimbal cal before flights).

On another note, did I see something on the SE controller that said record sound while flying as if I wanted to narrate the video? If anyone has used this, does it save on the remote chip or would I have to overlay it in post editing?

If anyone is having the same issue, we need to make sure Autel can address this in the next update.

Thanks everyone!

I had to send our company Evo II Pro V3 in for warranty service about a year ago for a similar issue - sometimes when I'd be moving the drone left or right it would climb or descend as well. Less frequently when trying to move foward or backward it would randomly turn left or right, so basically when you'd apply any "right stick" movement it would sometimes mirror that for "left stick" but turned 90 degrees clockwise. So, right stick "up" would cause left stick "right", right stick "right" would cause left stick "down, etc etc.

I also tracked the issue down to the controller and not the drone - if you gave it a pre-set mission to fly it'd happily take off and go do it without any trouble at all. I was able to borrow our other Evo II from another office and tested it further by pairing their controller to our drone and vice versa, and sure enough, the problem followed our controller to their drone and then back again when I paired them back with their original units.

Autel never did give me an explanation of exactly what was going on with it - they just sent out a brand new controller under warranty and called it a day. Unfortunately I just noticed it displaying that same behavior again now about a year later (and definitely out of warranty at this point) so I'm going to have to go through another round of testing before we take this thing out in the field and it flies itself into some power lines or something...

I've had a very similar issue a few weeks back which happend a little while after the last update V1.3.4. (I Always use Mode 2) This has happened a few times now. When pushing forward using the right control stick, the drone would yaw to the left and continues until I touch the left control stick and then it would be good for a little while then it would do it again. I contacted Autel and they replied the next day (as I am in Australia) they told me to try a few things that I had already tried such as Remote Calibration, Compas Calibration, IMU Calibration which neither of these made any change. They asked me to send it to be looked at but unfortunately, as I'm in AU they told me to send it to a Repairer in Malaysia but this would cost me a fortune as not only I would have to pay for shipping both ways, there is also some sort of duty or tax that has to be paid both ways also :( I did think though that somehow dust could have gotten inside the control sticks, so I took the back cover of the controller off to see if there was anything there. Found nothing but I gave it a little blow out just in case. The issue continues every now and then. I have also noticed the Map Split Screen disapeers sometimes also. No resolutions for either issue yet.

Sounds very similar to my first go-around with them. None of that worked for me either, thankfully last time the shipping was free under warranty. Probably a little cheaper for them without all the overseas transit and international borders to cross. I didn't make any attempt at cracking the controller open, but now that it's out of warranty if it continues that might be my next step. Do you actually get access to the gimbals by just taking the back cover off, or is there more "stuff" to disassemble? Based on the software I'm half expecting to find some random Chinese smartphone stuffed in there with a USB connector going to the gimbals or something.

No, it was quite simple surprisingly. Once back cover removed, a few ribbon cables going to the control stick and about 4-6 screws and it's off. Easier to blow out. Might be an option to replace the control sticks but I didn't think it would have to be so soon as my issue started about 14 months from new. I did a flight 2 days ago and had no issue with the left control stick but the Map Split Screen was missing in that flight. Today I did another short flight, no issue with the control stick again but this time the Map Split Screen was visable 🤷‍♂️
