Due to where I work and what I do I usually walk around the surrounding area during my lunch. Most days that means walking through Best Buy, Walmart, and some other stores that are local. The drone aisle at BB is one I always go down. The people that work there recognize me (having seen me 3-4 times a week for the past year) so they rarely ask me anything or if I need help. When I see a salesperson talking to someone about drones I often wonder if I should butt in to the conversation. It is likely that I know more about the drones than the salemen and I have no vested interest in, but my question is do you talk to people that are shopping for them or do you mind your own business?

Best buy was where i got a BEST Buy of my new Evo

They had the Evo AND 2 extra batteries ...carry bag and other stuff (i picked it up over a week ago and it was just the Evo and a battery...all of the rest of the package will be sent to me within 2 weeks...ALL for $899...The $899 is the standard going rate for just the Evo and a Battery etc.so i feel that i got a great buy...meanwhile i am learning flying with my Mavic Pro...Waiting for a good day for my EVO's 1st flight...i am excited

Yea, it is likely you know more. Sometimes I speak-up... While waiting for the BB salesperson in Dec. to finalize my “open box” LG washer/dryer (great deal), I wandered over to the drone aisle. I’d never seen an Anafi or an Evo in the flesh. I overheard a salesman talking-up the Mavic Pro 2. I waited until he left, and asked the guy what he was going to do with a drone, and, was it his 1st? It was, he wanted to fly around his Prescott, AZ ranch (100+ acres) and take pictures, check fencing, cattle, etc. So, I steered him toward the Anafi or the Evo, which are significantly cheaper — and told him about DJI’s controlling nature. He then asked me so many questions I was there for 15 min. I started to think Evo might be better (range, durability?) and the bundle deal was sweet. He got one, we exchanged email addresses. He’s happy as hell, only one crash (tree), no damage....

What made me think of this was the other day I was in Best Buy and a guy was talking to the salesperson and he was buying a Karma. I have a Karma (and I do like things about it), but I would never suggest it unless they had GoPro (non drone related) uses in mind.

Apparently this was his 2nd Karma and he and his son do work for farmers regularly. He said the Karma was as good (or better) than the Mavic Pro. I wasn't going to argue with him, but I really disagreed. The thing I love about the Karma is the controller. It feels good in your hands and hits the sweet spot for size and screen.

How much linear shelf/display space does the EVO get compared to other drones?

It is the only "major" manufacturer that doesn't have signage and dedicated displays. DJI (obviously) does and do Yuneec and Anafi. The Evo has as much presence as the crap $50 drones that they also have, which is a shame, because it is a good piece of kit.

That's disappointing. OTOH, at least they have a listing. I had hoped that sales might have justified a bigger display.

Anyone know what proportion in this price bracket buy online vs bricks & mortar stores? Amazon vs Best Buy? Online specialists vs brick & mortar specialists? I bought from an online specialist, never having seen a drone except on Youtube.

I can't speak for everyone, but when the Evo was announced I was excited to get it but it was so long until an actual release date was announced and it fell off my radar. I then bought an Air and I like it, but still felt a step below what I was looking for. When the actual release of the Evo came about online was the only place I could find it. Even when it was available for purchase from Best Buy it wasn't physically in the store for months. Going online was the only option I had when I decided to jump in.

All the other manufacturers have video displays (at least at the store I frequent), so this might be an Autel oversight.

I would imagine most EVO sales are online but there's no way of knowing. In fact, there's no way of measuring online sales for the whole industry. The only market data that has ever been produced was derived from till receipt analysis at brick & mortar stores. So when any manufacturer claims XX% of the market, they're talking footfall/retail only since no-one has a clue about the online business - although Amazon obviously do have a clue but they're not sharing.

At my local BB, they don't have anything fancy like screens and such, but half of the isle belongs to DJI, 25% belongs to Yuneec (due to their huge ACs) and the rest is divided between the Karma, Evo, and the cheap drones.

Edit: as for the price, I beleive they are $999 at the stores, just like online. Unless you find a special or bargain somewhere.
