Thank you for those very helpful replies. My own guess is that my Evo 1 isn't faulty, as the yaw is OK in the Precise setting. It looks as though I'm just going to have to practise being as delicate as possible when using the left-hand stick.

I recently tried to acess Orbit mode, but when I clicked on 'Mission', the only thee modes showing were Waypoint, Rectangular and Polygon. I thought that perhaps I had too old a version of the app, so I deleted it then downloaded and installed the latest version, but I still can't see the Orbit...
