Can someone tell me what cable connector is needed to charge the controller? Is it a usb c?

Standard/stock controller = Micro USB (pay attention to the direction of the port)
Smart Controller = USB-C

I used these and leave them in the controller so I can use a USB-C cable to charge it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GH5KJH2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use the following on the USB port so I can use USB-C to USB-C cable to my tablet. https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Bas...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

I leave both adapters in the slots which makes it a ton easier since you don't have to mess with that rubber cover any more. Also means you can use all USB-C cables for everything.

I have those, I think it's more of a hassle than just plugging in a micro cord.

The bigger liability to me is that Micro USB tips and sockets are pretty fragile. Each time a MicroUSB cable end is bumped or struck, it tends to loosen the socket over time until it's no longer reliable (even if the damage isn't obvious). So I don't like leaving anything plugged into them. OTOH, I do like leaving a robust 12" data-spec'd right-angle USB-A to C short cable I found for the Standard Controller plugged in 24/7 as it wraps around it nicely for storage, also leaves MicroUSB port available for charging with much less wear & tear

I have the Skyfire tablet mount so 0 chance of them getting hit or bumped but certainly understand the concern. They should have at least given us USB-C vs. micro on that power port.
