I believe it's right there on the display, you can tell whether the sensors are ON or not.

in any case, it's been awhile since I ran a mission and I don't want to tell you incorrectly. why not just bang out a short mission that puts you into the trees and fly it a few yards away, see what happens. just keep your finger on the pause button.
