From the AMA...

The U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate this week released proposed legislation for FAA reauthorization. We are pleased to share that both bills preserve the Special Rule for Model Aircraft and even contain some of the new provisions AMA has been advocating for to further protect our hobby. And while the Special Rule remains in both bills, there are areas of concern that we will continue to address with Congress.

As you may know, the Special Rule for Model Aircraft was passed in 2012 and allows community-based organizations (CBO) like AMA to continue managing our community of hobbyists without unnecessary government regulation.

See it here, UAV info starts on page 67 - https://www.commerce.senate.gov/public/_cache/files/1e5fb629-5fde-49da-9e09-e7bfce702c99/FDA7993A27A984DBEC38510A5DA60E58.s.-1405---faa-bill.pdf?t=1&cn=ZmxleGlibGVfcmVjc18y&iid=bd31107651324f698ed90c7aaa02d47d&uid=378143162&nid=244+272699400

Reading this like crazy right now. I'm down to page 134 (for Part 107 pilots):

"(b) TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENTS.—Not later than 60 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Administrator shall revise the online waiver and air traffic control authorization processes—(1) to provide real time confirmation that an application filed online has been received by the Administration; and (2) to provide an applicant with an opportunity to review the status of the applicant’s application."

And yet, no provision for real-time approvals, or even any reduction in the 90 day torture waiting period. That stinks. :-(
