Just picked up a EVO 2 6K V.2 rugged bundle with the large smart controller at a real good
price from Autel. Didn't want to deal with RID. Is the V.3 version of the same drone that
much more capable?

There is nothing to deal with concerning RID on the V3. RID is built in and you pretty much do not have to worry about it. You power on, do your preflights and fly.

V1/V2 will need an add-on module that is a pain in the butt since it needs to be attached, configured and charged (Constantly). Aerial Pixel makes a nice bracket to attach a Ruko or Holy Stone unit to the leg.
In my city, local police are mostly aware of RID rules and will ground you if they see you are not transmitting and if caught again will refer you to the FAA.

On a positive note, you will find the Evo 2 that while being dated, a solid drone that takes excellent images and video and is fun to fly. We have been using a V1 Evo 2 Dual since 2021 and she is still in service and doing her job in sometimes challenging public safety missions. She wears a RID module on her right front leg and this low weight module does not mess with the center of gravity too much.
