I have a policy with State Farm for my EVO 1 and was curious if anyone else on here has one. Here's the situation... I was flying at a local outdoor event at civil twighlight and there was an irate person who obviously did not like the idea of me flying and taking pictures. I was unaware of this and when I was descending to take a video she started chasing my drone with a pole and before I could ascend out of her reach she struck my drone causing it to go out of control. My first priority was to make sure it didn't hit anyone so I was concentrating on trying to control the drone which ended up flying away anyway never to be seen again. As far as I can tell it is either in the river or in a tree somewhere, I went looking for it to no avail. I do not know who woman was and nobody seems to know who she is either or is willing to admit it.
So, What do I have to do to submit this claim? Is it even worth it? Is it covered as a fly away? What do they require me to give them to show it was actually lost. I was not filming at the time so I have no video of this.
I have read other posts that said State Farm drops you after 1 claim and does not pay for flyaways just stolen equipment. I lost my drone and my lights and ND filter so the claim would be approx $1000.
Any assistance or advise would be appreciated !

First I would contact the local police if you can and file a report.
I think she could be charged with some pilot interference charges. If you are registered pilot.
I was flying over my daughters new house taking photos and a Karen neighbor posted on Facebook
that she would shoot down my drone if she saw it again. Notified local police who stopped by and had a talk with her.

Second I had a claim a couple of years ago with State Farm and they paid fully for my purchased price of my Typhoon H.
Did not ask what happened.
I had a direct deposit in my bank within 5 days.

Still insured with them on my Phantom and EVO I.
When I buy something I copy the receipt and all add on and give my agent a copy for my file.
I am an amateur photographer and have all my equipment insured with them plus a $1M L:iability Coverage.

Not to State Farm, just to Yuneec to try and find out why it failed to respond to control input
State Farm only asked for photos and a description of what happened.

Well I cant send them photos. Lol. Just a description of what happened.

What I had to do was contact my agent and explain what happened and to see If I was covered, as I never had to file a claim except for a few auto claims.
He took down what happened and then had a coverage specialist call me and I explained everything to him and sent him my purchase receipts by email.
He said they would cover it, and I had the money deposited in my bank in a couple of days.
Very easy and no hassle.
Don't know if it matters, but I live in New York State

I am glad that DRONE incidents have declined significantly and you rarely hear about them anymore on the news! You know like the incidents around airports and such!

I think the coolness of drones has worn off allot and that is a good thing for those of us who fly professionally and for sport!

If you haven't got your Part 107 yet, it's worth every penny! When asked by anyone while flying my Aircraft if I know what I'm doing, I simply show my PART 107 card and it usually shuts them up and makes them more curious to ask questions and become more informed.

As for that woman who wanted to SHOOT your drone down, I hope the police explained to her about Shooting at Aircraft in any fashion is a FELONY! She will hopefully SHUT UP and mind her own business!

As for your State Farm Insurance, how much do you pay on your premium, if you don't mind me asking??

My drones are part of my photography coverage, cameras, lens, lights, stands, remotes, and 2 laptops. $20K worth of replacement coverage. $134 every 6 months.
State Farm covers our homes, vehicles, water toys, and anything else we have insured.
People have been paying $50-$75 yr for one drone, depending where they live.

That's not bad at all! I wouldn't probably need that much. But, thanks for the info.

Atomic08 is right. You need to file a police report. #1, they might be familiar with this person if she’s a local. People like that aren’t usually random actors. #2, It might substantiate your claim with SF, and they may wonder why you didn’t make a report, since it’s a criminal act. Good luck and hope it works out for you. And thanks for the insight into SF for coverage. I’ll have to get a quote from them!

Dang I have so much too say, but I'm going to only say this, with SF I'm insured for $5000 for $75 a year.

I am a commercial part 107 pilot. I have State Farm for cars and homes and my agent told me drone coverage is not available for commercial operations, only hobbyist.. If you make money with your drone, State Farm may not be the best option. I suggest you check with your agent about this. Commercial hull insurance is costly, about 600 per year. I’ve opted to self insure on the hull and buy Verifly by the flight for liability. Also I am not sure the Autel is less than .55 pounds and not legal to fly over crowds, except incidentally per the new rules as I understand them. There are many videos on the new rules to check out plus the FAA training. Let me know if others have different experiences. Thanks

lots of good replies here, some not so much. sf will pay your claim, don't worry about whether they will or not. they will. and when they do, put the money towards evo 2 v2. sell your controller and whatever extra batteries/accessories you still have. and sf will drop you after that. they might sign you up, but eventually they will drop you...or they won't pay your next claim in which case you are better off to drop yourself. pay a little more and get autel care.

rth button and the pause button are your friend. if the drone is still air-worthy, let it fly itself because it doesn't panic like the pilot does. never a good idea to grapple with a drone trying to bring it under control and bring it home.

im going to disagree with this one: don't bother filing a police report unless sf insists. trust me, you don't want to go there. nothing good will come from it; there is no upside. next time stay aware. lessons learned.

Presumably this is in response to me. I’m curious why you are so certain of this. Personal experience?

I think steering the OP away from this is doing him a disservice, and the rest of us who pay insurance premiums. If the offender is identified, a judge can order (at least some) restitution. If not, the insurance co can go after her if she’s identified. You may be right that it could just end up being for naught, with nothing developed.
