Does your phone need to be paired via bluetooth wigh the new Evo Ii Pro contoller 1st

I can no longer get the gimbal to recalibrate. In the past for some reason even when put away properly it loses gimbal function. Now I have repaired it with the controller but no longer can pair it to my phone?? Thanks
