I use an LG Stylo 3 plus not activated and works just fine
You do not need LTE oe wify unless you want to use it to download updates.

My concern was return to home, GPS connectivity. I was not sure if it used the Cell/WiFi connection for any of those features. If it does not I may pick up a cheap 7" tablet... I can print an extension for the mount if needed.

Gps does rely on LTE or wifi so return to home will work. However you will not see the map unless you download the area you will be flying in before hand. You can also use the controller and have all the same functions as the app.

like TH said, all control functions will work fine except you will have a blank map unless you load it before you leave a wi-fi zone. It can be a bit of a pain. Funny enough when I use my iPad on LTE (with my Inspire) it always tells me that since I'm out of range of a wi-fi internet connection the map will not load, even though I am using LTE. Makes me wonder what I'm paying for it, but the map does load anyway. DJIs are full of false warnings

You can always use your phones hot spot to connect your dedicated device. If you have a Hotspot on your phone.

Just checked... I actually do, for some reason it is enabled on Xfinity Mobile using Verizon... but when I had Verizon, they would not allow it. I can only guess it's because I have the $12.00 a month Unlimited Talk & Text with 1 GB of Data - in other words... if I use 2 GB it would be $24 so it is in their benefit to allow as much access as possible.

gets expensive fast though bro

Yah, the only saving grace is if you're in New England almost everyone has Xfinity Internet and their homes or businesses - their modems automatically create hot spots for Xfinity Mobile customers. I turned off cellular data for auto updates, music and such, but even driving down the highway I get WiFi.

My reason for switching was Verizon did not work in Asia, at all! Could not even roam on another carrier. Xfinity Mobile not only works in Asia, but will use my hotel WiFi automatically to make and receive calls instead of roaming internationally... saved me a bundle on conference calls to the states.

WOW, that's pretty cool. I can't get Xfinity where I currently live, if I could I would switch anyway, I had Xfinity Internet and TV before I moved and though their customer service IS the worst the internet and cable for the most part were great, I'm with att now, internet is horrible, but cel Svc is great except for the alleged "unlimited" data that gets throttled down at I think its like 5 gig or something absolutely stupid like that,
