I was recently flying in Maine, unrestricted area along a harbor, doing some test flights with my Eve V3. Aircraft was up 150' and maybe 50 meters out over the water. I had an unobstructed view of the aircraft and much of the scene, but being that the location is in Maine, there are trees and I had an obstructed view to my left . In the process of bringing the drone back in, I hear an aircraft at a distance, but can't see it. I'm reeling the drone in, now at about 100' altitude and coming back to launch point when a turbo prop float plane comes skimming along just above tree top level (lets say 70' )following the shore line ( my home point is just inshore from the shore line) . Had the oh **** moment as the plane flew over the drone as I was returning to the home point. I suppose because the plane was so low the sound was not carrying very well as it flew the tree lined shore line, with the trees absorbing some of the sound. After this I was thinking that an ADSB receiver might be a nice accessory in some case but they are pretty pricey. Does anyone here use one and if so what unit works , is easy to use and doesn't cost the better part of $1G?

If you have an android phone with a USB-C connector you can simply get an RTLSDR dongle, USB-C to whatever converter for it, then use an app called Avere ADSB on your phone. That'll receive any ADSB nearby and let you see it. Will do 978 and 1090 as well.

This is the receiver I use: https://a.co/d/ixn8BIj and then just an an appropriate USB-C to USB-A adapter. (I wouldn't do it if you have old micro-USB some of those won't output enough power in MTP mode.

I don't have an android phone, But I suppose I could buy a cheap one and the dongle and have adsb. Or talking or better yet asking - The controller for my V3 is the large Autel smart controller which is an android device and has a usb C port . Could I load Avere ADSB on my controller and run Avere in the background while using the controller to fly the aircraft? I'm way out of my depth here. I also have a Karoo 2 cycling computer which is essentially an android phone masquerading as a cycling computer - also has an USB C port. I could load Avere on that , hook up the dongle and maybe that would work well enough as a receiver for the occasional use I would give it.
