Hey,want your Christmas lights to be seen from space? It'll only take 2,683 LED bulbs on your roof! That's science! Researchers say that if there is minimal light pollution it is theoretically possible for a festive house to be visible from the International Space Station.
That being said..Where are all the BEST holiday displays in your neck of the woods?

I was putting out lights on our front patio on a clear night last week, the Space Station came right over the top.

That thing’s moving so fast, I don’t see how they could see something that small, but if you’re in the middle of nowhere, you call them in advance, maybe....

Approximately 17, 150mph...

That's on a slow day... ;)

ISS Speed Limit

Watched an overhead pass just after sunset last night. Takes about 6 minutes - horizon to horizon. VERY bright, rivaling Venus, which was setting in the SW. Been tracking the ISS since the start of construction. Been a space geek even longer, since John Glenn went up - the FIRST time. :)

It's easy to find an upcoming pass.

My cousin's father was part of the Apollo 11 mission down at the Cape.

I don't know how far we will get into space...we haven't fully discovered everything on this planet.

One of my 1st photo assignments was the ISS solar arrays, the largest ever built. They retract into a crazy small space, but are frickin’ HUGE when opened. This is the best version I could find. They’re really hard to light — I put more lights behind it than in front!

Very cool shot! I remember my eyes glued to NASATV during installation of each of the array segments. And the repairs they had to make on the first one after relocation. Like stitching some of my mower's plastic parts together with zip-ties. LOL But it worked!

To get this back "on topic"...

My favorite Christmas light display is in the Sunset Hills neighborhood in Greensboro, NC. What started as a couple of neighbors making chicken wire balls, wrapping lights around them and hanging from trees has expanded to emcompass most of the neighborhood. Dozen of blocks of handmade decorations. No video/picture can truly capture the wonder of it all. I enjoy catching a dry night, taking the Miata over, dropping the top (and emptying the trunk of the canned food) and cruising around, looking up!
