Everyone thought I was crazy when I said this..... DJI DRONES BLACKLISTED BY FAA

If it ever does get banned, and I still think it could take years I would imagine that existing DJI drones would continue to fly but parts availability would become impossible and no one would be able to purchase any new DJI drones. I get the feeling though a new brand would mysteriously show up overnight with identical features but a different label.

I don't use Google products at all, for my drones I use an iPad mini kept in airplane mode at all times and enabled for Wifi only to register a new drone or install the app once; then back to airplane mode. Unfortunately Google Play services even came for "free" with my car and I have no way to turn them off but I did refuse to activate the LTE subscription.
Talk about paranoid! Geez!

.... The idea random people have that they’re important enough to justify these incredibly complex methods of spying is laughable. It’s as ridiculous as people who think every drone in the air is trying to take pictures of their kids through their windows.
lol. so true

It should be assumed that any and all info on your electronic devices can be collected, if they have any type of internet connection. It's just something we should all think about when doing whatever we are doing with these types of equipment. Also, the final nail in the coffin, IT'S CALLED A WARRANT. Game over if you want to hide anything and you find yourself a sudden happy recipient of a warrant.

Talk about paranoid! Geez!

It has nothing to do with paranoia, mainly I do not want an unrequested update to change the software on my tablet leaving me with an unsafe aircraft at the worst possible moment. DJI was well known for updating their no fly database, app, and firmware with no interaction from the user if the tablet or phone connected to the Internet. I kept my iPad in airplane mode for 5yrs and never updated the app or firmware for my Mavic Pro. I took it out of airplane mode and downloaded the new DJI app which was required to fly the Mavic Air I had just purchased......1wk later my Mavic Pro was force landed into the ocean due to an NFZ error in the no fly database which apparently was updated without my express permission when I installed the new DJI app.

As far as Google services, Google does not actually sell anything tangible...when it comes to Google your information is the product which makes you the product and their whole business model is to sell your information to any advertiser who will pay. This is how the social media platforms work as well; nothing is ever really free in this world, so I personally choose to contribute as little as possible to their business model...once again this is all well documented and public information.
I always find these posts funny.

It’s trivial to see if your device is sending network traffic. Free tools such as WireShark and tcpdump enable this.

When I was an engineer at Amazon it became exhausting to constantly have conversations with family/friends/acquaintances who said “you know those Alexa devices are listening to everything you say, that’s why you get ads for things you talk about.” No, they aren’t saving everything you say. So I’d propose they run a traffic capture on the device traffic to prove their theory, and what do ya know, not a single one of them ever provided any evidence, which again, should be easy to obtain.

The idea random people have that they’re important enough to justify these incredibly complex methods of spying is laughable. It’s as ridiculous as people who think every drone in the air is trying to take pictures of their kids through their windows.

I find them quite comical as well, of course someone that paranoid would never possibly believe that a network tracing tool installed on the device would tell them the real story which is why I recommended using a Wifi detector instead since the OP's concern was that the device was still transmitting something; and in all fairness, a process running at kernel mode with a network filter driver could technically evade detection by most network tracing tools; but it would still be visible to a Wifi detector. Just like if you truly want to see what a device is transmitting you need to put a network tracing tap at the access point, not on the device itself.

The reality is that if someone were to become a Person Of Interest (POI) at the nation state level there is nothing an individual could do to prevent that nation state entity from collecting every piece of information they needed/desired. I have met many such paranoid people in my lifetime and they all thought they were doing something special, something no one else had ever thought of, and something that would provide them anonymity from "them" (insert whatever your definition is of "them" here).

The more you try to be anonymous the easier it is for you to be tracked at the nation state level because there is less data for "them" to analyze and the more you stand out as suspicious by your very attempts to do so. A simple example is when people try to avoid the police tag scanners by parking in backwards or cover their faces in casinos. You immediately become the most interesting person there simply because by defeating their initial attempts to gather information you are flagged for closer inspection.

Then of course no matter how good you think you are, you can never defeat derived intel. Which is where "they" get all of the information "they" are seeking by deriving the information from 3rd party sources. A simple example of this is when a family member submits DNA to a DNA registry to try to look up their family tree and their DNA proves to be a close match to a cold case in a police database somewhere which is their primary POI. Or if you are so paranoid that you only have a flip phone yet you are in room full of people with smartphones; all "they" would need to do is turn on the microphones of everyone else's smart phones to hear everything you, the primary POI is saying.

These are all public and verifiable capabilities and are still just the tip of the iceburg of what is actually possible with current technology. So yes, reading posts like these where people think they are capable of defeating "them" at the nation state level is quite comical to me.

Actually, the only thing 44809 can't do that we can do is fly in controlled airspace at night. And that will be changing soon. Once the CBOs are approved, then it's likely 44809 flights will be allowed in controlled airspace as well. TFR approvals are incredibly difficult to get, no matter what rules you fly under.
So 44809 can now fly above 400' in uncontrolled airspace if within 400' of a structure horizontal and vertically?

Likewise, can 44809 now request and get waivers?

Ohhhh. Youre one of those. I gotcha. Well if you choose to not believe corroborated facts because they dont mesh with your world view then I cant do much for ya. Before any conversation can exist, both parties must agree that 2+2=4 and I don't trust the math skills of anyone that would rather prattle off talking points they received express from the propoganda machine than put forth the effort to have an original thought. Ill leave you with two thoughts.....

1. Every conspiracy theory is a conspiracy theory until its not. They are, at any time, just one leaked document away from going from conspiracy theory to leading news story. To think, not even a year ago you couldn't even mention the possibility of COVID being a lab leak. So dont say theres no merit. Theres plenty of merit. Just no source.

2. Just because Im paranoid does not mean Im wrong.
they obviously havent listened to Ed Snowden as much as you. yes.. NSA was happily secretly extracting info from everyones phones until he exposed them, now it's only a secret to those who choose to believe that the government are benevolent.

Ok guys you’ve wondered off the main topic. Everybody run and hide. Want to talk about phones go to a phone forum. We a drone
forum so let’s keep it that way or this Will be closed. 🤷‍♂️

So 44809 can now fly above 400' in uncontrolled airspace if within 400' of a structure horizontal and vertically?
No, that will likely remain the sole ability of 107 flights.
Likewise, can 44809 now request and get waivers?
No as well. Waivers are for 107 rules by definition. So 44809 flights don't qualify. You can use LAANC or Drone Zone of flights up to UASFM limits in controlled airspace though.

Thanks Vic, that makes sense and re-confirms that status quo.
