The LifThor EVO is designed specifically for the CrystalSky on the EVO controller. The battery on the CrystalSky can be changed (it comes with two batteries) without dismounting the CrystalSky See this link

What larger phones / small tablets is everyone using with their Evo?

Well, it turns out that even with a large hood, the ASUS Zenpad was not bright enough for me. I then selected the CrystalSky monitor which is very visable in the bright sun but, alas, I cannot access maps on it!!!

No, the controller handles will not secure a cell phone, It is a bit expensive but the LifThor EVO is an excellent tablet holder designed specifically for the EVO.

Personally, I believe that DJI has intentionally blocked access to Google Maps on the CS within their custom Android OS. At one point, I even side-loaded Google Maps along with two other apps which were required and I was unable to log into my Google account. Also, I do not believe that the EVO...

It is frustrating to be so near to having maps and yet not having them. On the CS, I can download maps for anywhere on the globe via the DJI GO 4.0 app and they display in the device (drone) display window even when the device is not actually connected. Here is the old version of the DJI map...

In the example above, I zoomed out just to see what total area was covered by a single map download. Obviously, being zoomed out enough to see the entire 6,000' x 3,000' area resulted in a great loss of detail but the detail is still there once you return to the original zoom factor. As...

Addendum: FYI, in landscape mode on my ASUS TF701T with 10"display, Explorer will initially download a map covering approximately 3,000' wide by 6,000' tall using 2.8 MB of cache memory. The map area can be expanded by scrolling left, right, up and down and I have not yet found the limit of how...

Won't the map still pop back even if you've closed the app??? Also, a more detailed map might be handy if your bird were to go down :(o_O

As I mentioned, so far I have only been able to "zoom in" to Southern California . . . the coast line and the mountains are pretty but useless!!! I scroll over to the western hemisphere: Then I begin to zoom into the San Joaquin Valley Before i can get any closer than this, the screen goes...

OK, I'm a dummy... I thought I was seeing Google "offline maps" but, actually, I was seeing maps which had been cached by the Explorer. By closely examining the limits of the map which comes up after starting Explorer without wifi connection, it was clear that the extents of that map were much...

Yup, that is just what I got through the EVO Explorer on the CrystalSky. I was unable to zoom in close enough to see any roads and it took me 30 min. to get that close. smh I am sorry to report that the Google Offline maps did not pop up as they had in the past. They seemed to work fine at home...

Damn, now you are making me wonder if it still works on my rig. I moved to the CrystalSky UHB monitor because the ASUSs were not bright enough. Also, you are making me wonder if caching through the Explorer app as you suggested on my CrystalSky tablet will give me maps there. I will have to...

Yes, each map expires after 30 days but you can "refresh" them without having to redefine them. I actually refresh four or five at a time in the background. Explorer = v1.01.19 Android = 4.4.2 on the TF701 and 7.0 on the ZenPad (neither of which is visable for me in the bright sunlight)...

Sorry, I do not know why this is the case for you. To reiterate: I log into Google Maps over my wireless connection while I am @ home In Maps, I locate the area I wish to download (using search if need be) I then tap the three dots to bring up a menu and I select "Download Offline Map" I zoom...

    Grass takeoffs

Also, I highly recommend that you avoid landing or taking off from a dirt surface ... the amount of dust those props can kick up can choke the internal ventilation system of the drone! (you are not the only one who was too eagar to fly  )
