Feeling lazy and getting ready for a flight ( a real flight)

Flew a preprogrammed mission to today to drain the battery.
Perhaps I’m experiencing some negative cross training from a previous RPA life, but my understanding is that if the EVO goes Lost Link while on a flight mission, is it not supposed to return home??

Sent it on it’s way at 400’ AGL but did NOT take into account the terrain of the property.
Works great BTW, until you lose signal.
I waited 10 min for it to return—no joy.
Had to hop on the ATV and go barreling up the road to reestablish link. Hahaha. It was just sitting where it lost link, hovering at 400’.

Grabbed control manually, and flew it back to the house. Landed at 17% battery.
The good feelings were gone for a hot minute. I suppose my understanding of the system is lacking.
Any inputs?
 
Strange. I have lost signal while on a mission. In my case it completed the mission, then returned home. What settings did you have on your mission? Also, when battery gets low, it should RTH on it's own. Perhaps it lost GPS at some point and couldn't find it's takeoff spot.
