I have had the drone out for 2 short test flights, everything worked fine (minus the sad realization that there is no gimbal pan...) However, the gimbal vertical pitch is now not responding. I've tried calibration which it will do fine, I've checked every setting I can think of, but I still cannot get it to respond. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the problem is on the controller side? I'd try blowing some air around the control wheel, and maybe check the settings to make sure there's not some wacky value in the gimbal settings.
