We have done it again. We aussies have a perchance for copying what America does. In the 60s we had delicatessens and milk bars. In the 70s we were opening Fonz style cafes called Johnny Rockets. Aussie golfers would go and play the US Open then come home with American accents. Now we have plagiarised the US drone regulations and have announced we pilots have to be licenced from 1st July.
I live in a metro area with quite a few thousand residents. I have more chance of seeing a flying Dodo than a drone.

Many countries have drone registration. Here in Canada we now have it also come June 1st.
Registration is not the end of the world. In Denmark they have had the requirement for the last 2 years together with a forced liability insurance in order to fly. In fact, they are now waiting for the rules the EU has made to be implemented in Danish law, which will probably make their strict rules less strict by allowing them to fly with RC airplanes/drones closer to people and cars, roads etc than they have today.

I don,t mind if they licence us but i'm looking for a win win. I would like AU CASA to also apply their copy catting by lifting their night flying restrictions as per some areas of the US.

The idea isn’t a bad one, though I think it crazy to expect people to pay $20 to register a recreational drone if the idea is to get everyone to sign up. Also, if they don’t force retailers to collect ID from future purchasers, and forwatf a copy to CASA, there’ll be a double standard. Look out for police and council rangers to start checking up on anyone seen flying. As for the online licence test, my understanding is that it will be a simple flight rules test, much like DJI does now when you first register your drone.
